Calon-calon yang berminat mestilah memenuhi syarat umum dan khusus permohonan seperti berikut:

• Pemohon/ibubapa (BUKAN LAHIR DI MELAKA) layak dipertimbangkan sekiranya bermastautin lebih 10 tahun di negeri Melaka serta lampirkan 1 salinan sijil berhenti sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah disahkan oleh pegawai kerajaan (Gred 41 ke atas)/ADUN Kawasan/PengerusiJAPERUN/ Penghulu/Pengerusi JPKK/Sidang;
• Pemohon yang ibu bapanya bukan warganegara Malaysia tidak layak dipertimbangkan dan
• Permohonan yang tidak lengkap dan tidak mengikut syarat akan ditolak

Bermula pada tahun 2023, Persatuan Siswazah Wanita Malaysia (PSWM) menawarkan satu anugerah bernilai sehingga RM 50,000.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Lima puluh Ribu) kepada calon-calon Ijazah Sarjana bagi membantu mereka melanjutkan pelajaran. Dana Biasiswa PAUM adalah satu program Yayasan PAUM, yang ditubuhkan pada Oktober 1997 oleh PAUM untuk memberikan biasiswa kepada pelejar-pelajar Universiti Malaya yang berkelayakan.
